Balance - Issue 121
18/04/12

British banking does a lot of good, shows the Spring edition of balance - the BBA's flagship quarterly magazine.

We are delighted to feature the chief executive of Charity Bank, which has improved the lives of more than 3.5 million people and offers investors the chance to use their money in a positive way. We are also pleased to endorse the Ethics in Finance Robin Cosgrove Prize - set up in memory of a young banker who believed the finance sector should serve the common good as well as make profits. Details of how to enter the next round of the prize can be found on p.12 - essays proposing innovative ideas about ethics in financial services are invited from those aged 35 and under, with a prize fund of USD 20,000 awarded to the best.

We also feature the eminent philanthropist and entrepreneur Dame Stephanie Shirley, who tells us how and why she gives, and why she's chosen to go public about it.

The issue of ethics in financial services is one of growing importance. We hope this issue of balance goes some way to demonstrating that, contrary to popular opinion, bankers are not all bad.
